ALTAR FLOWERS

Mission:

In seeking to know Christ and make Him known, the Resurrection Flower Ministry aims to enhance worship by providing weekly altar flower arrangements and Easter and Christmas flowers.
Criteria & Expectations
Volunteer Criteria:
The Flower Ministry is a fun way for volunteers to flex their creative muscles! The ideal volunteer enjoys working with flowers and can find time prior to their chosen Sunday to create the arrangement. While no prior experience is necessary in creating large arrangements, volunteers should be familiar with general flower arranging principles. With that being said, anyone who is creative and loves flowers can learn and we are willing to train!

Volunteer Expectations and Procedures:
Volunteers are responsible for creating two altar arrangements OR one large center arrangement. Overall, two arrangements is preferable as it looks better on the livestream.

The volunteer is responsible for purchasing the flowers the Sunday prior. Typically, this is done on a Thursday or Friday to allow the flowers time to acclimate. Ideally, the flowers will be trimmed and put into water. On Friday or Saturday, the volunteer arranges the flowers. It is up to the volunteer how and where she would like to do this, but it typically works best to arrange the flowers at church in the kitchen or the Sacristy. The volunteer can pick her preferred vase and method (chicken wire, floral foam, or none). All supplies are kept in the Sacristy. At this time, volunteers should also be sure to discard and clean up any remaining flowers from the previous week. Care should be taken with pollen (especially lily pollen) that it does not get on any of the altar cloths and in keeping the reredos dry. Liners should always be used in vases and if in doubt, use a clear plastic tray.

Volunteers can choose to either donate the flowers as a tithe or be reimbursed for the purchase up to $75. Historically, members have usually donated the flowers as a tithe, which can be done by submitting receipts to the Director of Finance. If requesting reimbursement, a form is filled out and signed by the staff liaison.
